What's the difference between the two styles?
The Basic Shapley is a simple construction with 3-layers of fabric.
The Tailored Shapley is more complex - it still has 3 layers but one of those layers is tailored as a hidden filter pocket, which allows the addition and removal of a PM2.5 or similar disposable filter (of any standard size). It also has the addition of a nose bridging strip, which not only reduces fogging for glasses wearers, but provides additional structure around the nose bridge and cheeks, for a snug fit. This simply requires extra tailoring and the time for our sewists to do this is factored in. Also in the Tailored Shapely, the fabric closest to the face is more premium (a linen-cotton blend) than the Basic Shapely (poplin or poly-cotton blend) and this is also factored into the cost.
Next day dispatch via tracked door-to-door courier. The courier services we use are 100% carbon neutral. Express via Aus Post is also available, as well as a standard post option. Choose your flavour at check-out.
- 100% light-weight cotton / poplin / silk-cotton layer
- 50/50 cotton-poly (poplin) blend layer
- 100% medium-weight cotton / poplin / linen-cotton blend layer
One layer has a partial polyester composition which provides some water resistance, and the cotton layer helps to absorb facial moisture. Check out our info page for washing instructions and more information.
No two masks are the same. Please bear in mind that the print positioning in the image shown is for illustrative purposes only and is subject to variation as each mask is stitched separately from fabric. Care and attention are paid to the details of each mask to ensure the final design is aesthetically pleasing, and we also have a strong sustainability focus so we cut with minimal fabric wastage. Depending on the design you choose, we layer 100% cotton fabric with either linen or cotton-polyester blend fabrics, to ensure they are as light wearing and breathable as possible once combined. Of the nine internal fabric colours we stock, the one featured has been chosen to compliment the external mask style. If you’d prefer one colour in particular, just drop us a note in the check-out.
Soft woven Elastic Ear Loops
Soft woven fabric loops secure the mask comfortably around your ears. They are provided untied so that the tie can be made behind the head or behind the ears depending on your preference.
Filters & Nose Bridging Wire
The "Tailored Shapely" design features a handy internal filter pocket slot which allows the addition and easy removal of fabric or medical-grade filters, making the design versatile and environmentally friendly. You can purchase PM2.5 activated carbon filters here > You can also buy replacement filters from anywhere and simply dispose of them responsibly before washing your mask. The Tailored Shapely also features an embedded nose bridge, which is recommended for glasses wearers in order to reduce fogging issues.
Say no to pocket lint and crumby masks!
We also make washable mask baggies out of excess cotton fabric. You can nab one of those here >
We have made these triple-layered masks based on current government advice which can be found here. Please ensure you do not touch the outside of any mask you are wearing (whether disposable or not), and ensure you keep up physical distancing protocols and good hand hygiene.
Thanks so much for supporting our team of makers and some awesome local charities with your custom purchase. We hope you are able to stay safe, connected to your community in some way and hopefully enjoy being as creative as possible in these strange times!

Your Sewing Team @ Mask Planet
Our fabric sourcing and production is 100% ethical, local and artisan. Our business started as 100% carbon neutral and we are absolutely committed to staying that way for good! This includes everything from the wind-farm energy that powers our studios, our eco printers, compostable corn-starch and plant-based cello packaging as well as our courier deliveries.
As a for-purpose business, we are committed to a fairer way of making sustainable products. We support lots of awesome local charities including Beyond Blue, Bridging the Gap Foundation, Surfrider Foundation, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, the RSPCA, Arts Access Australia, The Black Dog Institute, SEED, Tangaroa Blue, PTSD Dogs Australia and Backpack Bed for the homeless.
As artists, seamsters and makers, we decided to put our skills to good use during lock-down by making as many fabric masks as possible. Our aim is to contribute to the safety of our communities and provide quality cloth masks that help to slow the spread of covid-19. Buying a reusable mask helps to significantly reduce the number of disposable masks that end up in landfill.
